Telepath is basically a tribute to the music I grew up with, much like The Opium Cartel. But where The Opium Cartel mines the pop music I listened to in the 80s, Telepath goes a bit further back, to the hard rock and metal that was my very first musical love. A bit of thrash, a bit of doom, and a fair dash of 70s hard rock has gone into my cauldron of songs, and also more than a little of the kind of soundtrack music that accompanied the 80s horror flicks me and my friends used to love to watch (I still do!). So there’s that meeting of crunchy guitars and bangin’ drums with the synth sounds of Goblin, Fabio Frizzi and John Carpenter that basically defines Telepath. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI never intended for this to become an album, so recording these songs was a pure exercise in fun, experimentation and enjoyment. I utilized every dirty trick in the book to create the illusion of a band, while it was always basically me and my instruments and tools. Guitars, synths, drum machines, sequencers, loops, programming and samples have all been used to realize the tunes, but while I used state of the art tech to put it all together, I also wanted things to be as spontaneous as possible, so all instrument recordings are first takes, and I never went back to correct mistakes, whether it was a bum note or a missed beat from a sequencer, or indeed my own off-key singing. Ketil is a veteran flutist of the Norwegian prog rock scene, having been a part of White Willow for almost 20 years. He has also been a member of Jaga Jazzist and played on more than fifty albums, with bands like Motorpsycho and Geir Lysnes Listening Ensemble. As a composer, he has written music for 10 documentaries and one TV series (all of this together with Lars Fredrik Frøislie (Wobbler, White Willow, etc.)\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e \u003cem\u003eSehr Kosmisch Ganz Progisch\u003c\/em\u003e is Ketil’s debut as a band leader. He has been a Kraut rock enthusiast since he discovered the music through the record collection of his friend´s hippie father in the early 90s, so to take this musical turn was a very natural thing for him. And it´s quite easy to hear the inspiration of bands like Tangerine Dream, Can, Cluster, Harmonia and others. But, it´s not a retro sounding album, the sound is also influenced by Ketil’s former band, Jaga Jazzist and similar bands. Of course, there´s a huge dose of 70s era progressive rock in there, too.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e The result is a very unique and demanding album. The simplicity of Kraut rock is juxtaposed or mixed with a complete sensory overload of multitracking, heavy use of effects, and compositional techniques from contemporary or classical music.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e Ketil plays the flute, clarinet, guitar, keyboards and provides programming.
