He’s in the progressive rock group ZOOM with Paul Landry on New Age Music Planet Records. Recently he recorded with Melodic Revolution Records' artists Red32, Tony Romero’s Vortex and Joe Mac’s American Garage. He’s played live at a number of festivals—most recently RoSfest and ProgStock where he is the resident minstrel in the park. It grows from dynamic musical genres as a wide-ranging mix of progressive rock, new age, jazz fusion, and cinematic genres. “Hollow,” with its Keith Emerson soaring synth, was inspired by “great film scores.” “All That Razz” sounds like Gershwin fell in love with artsy electric string players and was influenced by both Robert’s father (who loved jazz) and his favorite contemporary electric violinist Joe Deninzon. The late Swedish Hammond organist\/guitarist Bo Hansson inspired the flowing “Levels.”\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003e“M is for Moog” is Robert’s “tribute to Moog and all Bob Moog gave to the world. The composition is all Moog synthesizer,” Robeone says, and he cites the late Japanese synthesist Isao Tomita, a Moog devotee, for influence on the recording. Moog and Mellotron whose retro vibe will be counterbalanced by Kurzweil and guitar-like effects can sound impressive, yet there’s a lot of sentiments in Robert’s faux-cerebral sonic brew.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003eAs a result, while the platter’s epic centerpiece, the 12-minute-long “Turn Off Your Brain Part 2” – a sequel to the number from 2020’s “My World” – emerges as a string of deceptively passive images only to expand into a multilayered, mesmeric and elegiac, and rather passionate, space trip. The opener “Don’t Ever Stop Your Heart” offers a pensive groove and offsets piano ripples with a parping bass and synthetic passages, unfolding romantic panorama right in front of the listener’s mind’s eye and marrying traditional jazz figures to new-age ethereality and pseudo-abstract filigree. However, the dance-inducing landscape of “Morning Rush” feels arrestingly bombastic before faux-flutes add a folksy flourish to its suburban glory. The pellucid veil of “Yesterday Again” is lifted to reveal cosmic balladry under stereo-fanned veneer that’s glistening in the light of quasi-brass.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003eFurther down the line, the plastic punch of “Clusters” – which has vocal samples attached – locates Eastern-flavored exotica on the route to Krautrock, leading to an almost-orchestral, fatigued grandeur of “Halos”: a perfect finale for the adventurous record that won’t tire Robeone’s fellow traveler. Likewise, “Prayers” follows, spending about half of its six-plus minute duration in a jumpy jazz idiom then smooths out with a steady groove with soaring lead lines to bring it to near its conclusion. “Tralfalmadore” uses some great classic crunchy organ sounds mixed with atmospherics all to good effect with a funky bottom end. In general the tunes on My World stretch out a bit more than on previous albums, and the eight-minute “Turn Off Your Brain” combines some wicked Berlin School sequencing stylings then lets go with more jazzisms and high-flying melodies along its trippy journey.
