Their music ranges from the heartfelt and gentle to the energetic and explosive, and it's rarely far between those extremes. He has played on more than 300 albums with a various range of artists in different genres and he plays regularly with bands and artists like Nils Petter Molvær group, Stian Westerhus, Geir Sundstøl, Madrugada and Eivind Aarset to name a few. The new album was recorded in Oslo in March 2023 and is his first on Is It Jazz? Hagen from Xploding Plastix. Dahlen plays a lot of custom-made instruments here - Lars Hurlen has built different logdrums for this album, and Harald Hougaard has built a custom-made zither bass. Emil, Aksel, Alf and Ingvald have, as The Verge, only done some humble touring in Norway until this point, but recorded a truly vital and original album in Duper Studio in 2021. The hypnotic album encompasses a lot of different styles, but the ability of the four instrumentalists to weave it all together in a seamless manner makes it all take on a coherent form. We just played some music, and shared a lot of laughs, basically. And then we were lucky enough to have Gard's friend, the great Johan Lindström, added some pedal steel to a few of the tracks later on. What kind of musical direction this time? Well, we've been all over the place, and back again several times already, through the years. This time we wanted to explore more of a \"pop\" direction. That is \"pop\" with a massive disclaimer. There's perhaps a little more emphasis on shorter songs, simpler melodies, and \"poppy\" rhythms, and slightly less of the rock and the free jazz influences this time. We even do a cover of Stina Nordenstam's cover of Purple Rain! But never the less, it's still very much a Bushman's Revenge album, as weird as ever. This combined with the busy schedules for the musicians in other bands and projects, the band only played gigs every now and then.
