The Demonstration Tapes grew up in an era where American culture—music, film, literature—served as a guiding light. Throughout their lives, their relationship with the US has been marked by friction, yet equally driven by respect, curiosity, and love.
A few years ago, they realized that they were each writing songs centered around American states. That sparked the idea to write and release one song for every U.S. state. With the upcoming anniversary of American independence just a few years off, they had a plan. The debut album First Amendment was released in 2025, featuring songs about Texas, New York, Oklahoma, and more—14 tracks covering 14 states.
As the country celebrates 250 years of independence in 2026, the offer their nod to the celebration with Second Amendment - 11 new tracks born out of love and a hint of despair. They are now halfway through the project, with 25 states to go - keeping their fingers crossed that there's still something left to celebrate when they reach the finish line. Now, in the 2026 anniversary year, comes the next installment.
