“After just a year together, Bridgend trio Tribe3 have secured a slot on 2024’s HRG XIV bill and are getting traction on prog radio in Europe and the US all on the strength of this, their rather impressive self-titled debut. Packed with melodies, hooks and cut-above musicianship, it owes a debt to Rush, 80s Yes and Marillion, but guitarist Chris Jones’ gutsy, sometimes funky guitar often takes the grand symphonic prog into earthier realms. Drummer/vocalist Jon Kinsey can really deliver a song, often in 7/8. The riffy “Calm Before The Storm” shows off his full range, with falsetto moments and choral effects selling the sophisticated melodies. “The Downfall Of The Birdwatcher” is a whopping, harmony-freighted anthem, its widescreen musical scale rubbing up charmingly against the twitcher-based lyrics. Composer, bassist and keyboardist Steve Hughes gives all six tracks an intergalactic dimension, from the strings, harps and choirs of 10-minute opener “Invictus” to the keys of dramatic 12-minuter, “Lament”. With those Sabbathy chords of doom down (Fear Is The Key) and a sentimental streak (Dawntreader) too, Tribe3 are ones to watch for sure” – Grant Moon/Prog Magazine
