Steven Wilson

One of the UK’s most singular artists, Steven Wilson is a songwriter, producer & Grammy nominated spatial audio mixer who has made a gradual transition from cult status (as frontman of Porcupine Tree) to charting solo artist.

Wilson first began making experimental music as a teenager in his bedroom on homemade tape machines. The results were released under the name Porcupine Tree, whose music shifted between ambient electronics & expansive Floydian rock before gaining huge critical & commercial success with 2002’s In Absentia, where the band added a brutal and propulsive metal element to their music which ended up a huge influence on a generation of bands that followed.

As Porcupine Tree’s status grew, Wilson also spent an increasing amount of time working on solo material. Each new release defied genre & expectations. Where his first album Insurgentes was claustrophobic and guitar heavy, The Raven That Refused To Sing was like a series of Edgar Allen Poe stories put to melancholic melody. The Future Bites presented gleaming, propulsive electronics & a guest appearance by Elton John. The Harmony Codex was an endlessly revealing puzzle box that slipped effortlessly between styles. The Overview explored depth, distance, and desolation.

Wilson will surely change it up again with his latest Requiem For A Village, a self-described folk-horror concept with "organic instrumentation, human imperfection, and analogue unpredicatbility".
