UK purveyors of Medieval Space-Rock, Gandalf’s Fist, will release Gōshollow on 6th November 2026 through their own label, Nightkeeper Productions. It follows 2022’s Widdershins, which drew some of the strongest reviews of the band’s career:
“A seriously ambitious, multilayered album” – Prog Magazine
“The apex of today’s Prog world” 5/5 – music-news.com
“Gandalf’s Fist may just have reached their musical zenith” – Progradar
“Becoming more confident and rock-oriented with every new release” 9/10 – DPRP.net
“Atmospheric, crafted, yet still forceful progressive rock” 4.5/5 – Sea of Tranquility
“The most wonderful heavy prog you’ll hear anywhere... it’s beyond superb” – NWOBHM.com
Gōshollow brings the band’s cult festive singles to CD for the first time, whilst expanding their lore to a dark festive concept album with a wealth of brand-new songs. Winter’s Mourning (2017), was voted into Prog Magazine readers’ Top 20 Prog Christmas Songs, and Witchwood (2020) returned to the same haunted forest. Both have now been and woven into this brand new nine-track story, which proves to be one of the most unique “Christmas Albums” released to date.
The album opens on the eve of the Solstice, when the lord of Gōshollow Manor strays into the Witch of the Woods’ forbidden garden and is cursed into animal form. His own hunting party catches and cooks him for the feast. From there, a frozen maid claims a soul every winter, a woodsman strikes a fatal bargain with the witch, and the Witchwood comes to collect its debts with wrathful vengeance. Musically, it runs from woodsmen’s folk carols to downright dirty metal riffs – a perfect soundtrack for the long spectral nights of Autumn and for cold Winter evenings huddled indoors.
Formed in 2005, Gandalf’s Fist draw on the ‘Golden Era’ of Progressive Rock, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and Renaissance Folk. Their records have featured Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden), Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex-Judas Priest), Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon), Troy Donockley (Nightwish), Dave Oberlé (Gryphon) and actors Mark Bento.
