The Devil's Staircase

The Devil's Staircase is the math-and-music project of composer and bassist Luis Nasser, built on a single premise: the order we see in nature comes from simple mathematical rules iterated over and over, with a random error added, and the patterns emerge from there. The band writes music that reflects that process, offering a way into mathematics through the pleasure of listening rather than theother way around.

Signed to ProgRock.com's Essentials in November 2023, the group's self-titled debut mapped Kepler's Music of the Spheres, including songs for the planets Kepler never knew were there.

Mother Mycelium is the second album, with the same
lineup returning and the project again supported by the National Science Foundation.
