Scenes From A Revolution is a powerful musical journey that brings the listener through a turbulent human story of survival and loss through the lens of the Russian Revolution, World War II, and the ultimate emigration to the West. Using the true-life personal experiences of a family that made it through this time, the songs echo lives torn apart by war, faith crushed under totalitarian rule, and generations impacted by exile, loss and silence. From the mysterious death of Rasputin to the silencing of conscience in Soviet homes, to forced work declarations under Nazi captivity and the harrowing disappearances of loved ones who went to war, each scene captures the devastating impact of ideology on individual lives. Yet, amid the ashes, this story finds flickers of hope — in memory, in rebellion, and in the enduring promise of freedom and a (hopefully) better future.
The project originated with Gene Bohensky, who conceived the concept and framework and wrote most of the lyrics. Nick Bohensky (The 16 Deadly Improvs) composed the music—excluding the vocal melodies—crafting a landscape built around recurring thematic motifs and performed many of the instrumental parts. Dave Wilson later joined the collaboration, infusing the music with rhythmic drive through his drumming and serving as co-producer alongside Nick. These instrumental compositions were then shaped into fully realized songs by Kingston & Greystarr, Mark Nowak, and Jeff Bridi, who contributed vocal lines and melodies. This supporting cast ultimately expanded the works further with additional instrumentation. The result is a work forged through genuine collaboration, with each contributor leaving an essential imprint on its sound and spirit.
The music unfolds to reflect the human journeys at the heart of the story, weaving Mellotron, Hammond organ, Moog, and synthesizers into a shifting world of ambient electronica and guitar-driven force, shaped by influences of classic and modern progressive rock. Alternating between mellow reflection and aggressive intensity, the album surges with soaring guitar solos, strings and horns, touches of metal and math rock, and military-inspired rhythms. All of these propel the story with visceral power and emotional weight throughout the 16-track, 69-minute odyssey.
Although Scenes From A Revolution tells the story from the deep past, it also mirrors the struggle we face in the world today.
