Tiles – Tiles (Cassette)
The debut album from Tiles was released in May 1994.
Capitalizing on the momentum of their 1991/1992 production deal with Gene Simmons of KISS, Chris Herin (guitar) and Mark Evans (drums) started working on a new project which gradually developed into Tiles. The band's debut album is proggy melodic hard rock featuring plenty of odd-metered interplay within concise song structures. Notably successful with licensing agreements in Japan (Teichiku Records) and Europe (Polydor), the music on Tiles is quite different from what was popular at the time. Heavily criticized in mainstream publications as a throwback, the band's music was exactly what they wanted to make, and it ultimately put them at the forefront of what became the "third wave" of progressive rock (along with the likes of Enchant, Spock's Beard, etc.)
