"Although The Courage To Be is almost entirely an instrumental album, it is very much a concept album — a collection of songs that tells a story through impressionistic musical characterizations of mood and drama. The central theme of this album is that of two lovers, driven apart by forces beyond their control. The Courage To Be explores how the protagonists cope with their reality — the avenues from which they draw strength, the worlds to which they escape, and ultimately, their efforts to come to terms with their shared fate.
When we are faced with adversity, from where can we draw the strength to move forward? For me, the courage to be is drawn from the grace of loved ones, the relationships we hold dear, and music, art, and life itself. Ultimately, my wish is that this album provides a message of hope: that even during the darkest times, when our circumstances seem the most dire, there is always something — often that which we take for granted — that can offer the promise of serenity, truth, and peace.
