The Norwegian instrumental rock band Pymlico is back with new music – their single Don’t Do That, which also marks the first taste of their upcoming album Core, releasing on May 9, 2025.
The song, written by the band’s bassist Are Nerland, delivers everything Pymlico is known for: magnificent compositions, melodious and singable themes, and virtuoso playing. On this track, the band flirts with a more electronic soundscape and incorporates elements from the 80s, such as big synths and programmed drums. The result is a song that is both energetic and joyful, showcasing the musical strengths of all seven members.
"We’ve always wanted to create music that is both technically challenging and emotionally engaging – always with the melodies at the forefront', says the band’s founder, Arild Brøter. Over the years, Pymlico has built a strong reputation within Scandinavian progressive rock, and with their releases on Apollon Records Prog, they’ve established themselves as a productive and quality-conscious band.
Later this spring, the band will release their eighth album Core – an album where Pymlico explores what they can create with minimal external influence. Traditionally, the band has expanded their sound on album recordings by including brass, strings, and other instruments to complement the soundscape. This time, they’ve chosen to strip away the extra layers and focus on the core – the seven members. The goal was to maximize the potential of this lineup, and the result is an album that is rawer and fiercer than anything they’ve done before – but still contains all the qualities Pymlico is known for: melodious, groovy songs and fierce solos, wrapped in a modern production. Don’t Do That will be released on all digital platforms on Friday, February 28th.
